Summary: This is the English translation of the Manusmriti, which is a collection of Sanskrit verses dealing with ‘Dharma’, a collective name for human purpose, their duties and the law. Various topics will be dealt with, but this volume of the series includes 12 discourses (adhyaya).
The commentary on this text by Medhatithi elaborately explains various topics and argues with opponents of the text. He composes his own answers to their claims, backed up by authentic sources, such as references to Panini's work.
Manu refers to the author, and Smṛti refers to ‘Law book’. This volume presents the full english translation of the Manu-smriti with the commentary (bhashya) by Medhatithi. Alternate titles:
