From Daniel Ovelz Michael.
This was in December 1947.
❁ A man in the wheelchair was not in the best of health to take over as Prime Minister.
❁ The Kashmir war waged from oct 27 1947 untill Dec 1947.
❁ Due to onset of winter the war was halted till May 1948.
❁ The war began again in May 1948 and went on till Dec 31 1948.
❁ On Dec 20 1947 the cabinet met and decided to refer the Kashmir issue to the UN not because the Army could not sweep out the Pakistani rangers but because when the war would be halted for the winter the Pak rangers had to be prevented from re occupying the valley.
❁ Going to the UN helped in keeping the Pakistani rangers out of the valley during the temporary interval to the hostilities.
❁ To recover the area which is now present Indian administered area from Pak invaders it took nearly 2 years for the Indian Army.
❁ So to presume that Indian Army would have flushed out the rangers in matter of few months is fooling onself.
