EDDELU KARNATAKA

MAY 1st 2023

May day wishes to all.

Here is a short list of tasks completed by ‘Eddelu Karnataka’ /’Wake up Karnataka’ thus far:

ORGANISATION/NETWORK: STRUCTURE AND PROCESS:

1.       Consultations and core group discussions started in January 2023; Core team formed on February 27th; First Central workshop organized in Bangalore [Jai Bheem Bhavan] on March 5th. Attended by 150 leading organizers from 21 districts;

2.       The name ‘Eddelu Karnataka’ was selected through voting and Executive council was formed. Various committees like field coordination committee, social media committee, narrative committee, critical constituency identification committee, finance committee, political negotiation committee etc were formed.

3.       Series of zonal, district and constituency level workshops were conducted without losing time from March 12th to April 18th. Almost 110 workshops held in a very brief period.

4.       First Online General Body meeting was held on April 5th, in which field guidelines were presented and approved. Major policy related decisions were also finalized.

 SURVEY/DIP-STICK ON ‘PEOPLE’S PULSE AND PRE-ELECTION SURVEY:

1.       A mega survey was taken up by Eedina (an associate media organization of Eddelu Karnataka). Eddelu Karnataka volunteers and leadership supported various aspects of the survey. It was a very scientific survey in which 40,000 households were selected and interviewed across 224 constituencies.  A good survey report was published and it is making news not only in Karnataka but all over India.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND PRINT PRODUCTION TEAM:

1.       Social media team started functioning from day one. So far it has produced more than 300 posters, 5 videos. More to come in next 10 days. Work  on songs, ground stories etc. is going on in full swing.

2.       A Booklet exposing BJP’s 4 years of misrule has been printed. 50 thousand copies have been published and are being sold across the state for Rs. 10. Free copies are also distributed in some villages and areas.

ENGAGING WITH VARIOUS POLITICAL GROUPS AND PLAYERS:

1. Meeting with the heads of the
Vokkaliga Mutt leaders to stem the false narrative of Urigowda – Nanjegowda; Reporting on the issue of Amul Vs Nandini, and detailed reports of Modi visits via Eedina media stories and more than 30 videos.

2. Charter of demands of various cross sections of people like Farmers, workers, Minorities, Dalits, homeless etc prepared and discussed with the Manifesto drafting committee of the Congress and drafting committee of the JDS.

3.       Discussions were held with state leadership of various communities and sections like Muslims, Christians, Dalits, OBC federation, farmers, some working people’s organizations, student and youth etc.  Eddelu Karnataka has received very good response and support from them. A coordination mechanism is established to work with such organizations. A network of  different organizations is in operation.

4.       In the initiative of minority organizations which are part of Eddelu Karnataka, we could re enroll more than 1 lakh 58 thousand voters [1,10,000 Muslims and 48,000 Christchians], who were missing from the voters list.

5.       Our political negotiation team held series of meetings with smaller parties (who can divide the votes) and succeeded in convincing them to not to field candidates in some of the Constituencies. Altogether 49 candidates were withdrawn. Some parties could not withdraw the candidacy due to internal issues, but they agreed to not to go for an intensive campaign.

6.       Eddelu Karnataka supported the ‘Young India movement’ and the ‘Samyukt Kisan Morcha’ to hold a Panchayat on Karnataka farmers issues on 26th of April in Bengaluru. At the panchayat the two major parties, Congress and JDS sent their representatives and endorsed many of the demands made by the farmers in their list of demands.  They also promised to repeal the Three Farm Laws and four other major Acts that the BJP Karnataka government had passed over the past years.

7.       Almost 100 teams are engaged in various activities at the ground level. Coordination with the leading candidates in most of the constituencies have been initiated. In some constituencies, problems still persist and we are working towards resolving them.  Coordination with Congress party and JDS is established. It is working with some ups and downs.

8.       A number of ‘Influencers’ teams have started to tour Karnataka to support the local teams and to give pointed messages to the people through press meets and to resolve issues especially where splitting of votes is a serious problem. Special teams are going to be formed to address constituency specific issues where there is a serious vote division among minorities.

FUND POLICY AND FUNDS

1. Right at the inception of ‘Eddelu Karnataka’ a policy decision was taken not to accept any monetary support from any of the political parties at any level. We kept our policy intact. In some places we have taken help in the form of using vehicles, where the candidate was found to be cooperative.

2. EK’s Finance Committee has thus far sustained the campaign with cash flow. However, funds are required to sustain the work in this crucial period.

Helen Mirren once said: Before you argue with someone, ask yourself.......

Helen Mirren once said: Before you argue with someone, ask yourself, is that person even mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective. Because if not, there's absolutely no point. Not every argument is worth your energy. Sometimes, no matter how clearly you express yourself, the other person isn’t listening to understand—they’re listening to react. They’re stuck in their own perspective, unwilling to consider another viewpoint, and engaging with them only drains you. There’s a difference between a healthy discussion and a pointless debate. A conversation with someone who is open-minded, who values growth and understanding, can be enlightening—even if you don’t agree. But trying to reason with someone who refuses to see beyond their own beliefs? That’s like talking to a wall. No matter how much logic or truth you present, they will twist, deflect, or dismiss your words, not because you’re wrong, but because they’re unwilling to see another side. Maturity is...

EXPLAINING THE PREAMBLE OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION

Thanks Hari Singh Shekhawat for EXPLAINING THE PREAMBLE OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION: Given the detailed nature of the Constitution of India, the Preamble serves a vital role in capturing the essence of the Constitution. Let’s revisit its core values on the 76th Republic Day. As India prepares to celebrate its 76th Republic Day under the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Legacy and Progress), the day also marks a historic moment to reflect on the core values of the Indian Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950. On this day, let’s reflect on the core values enshrined in the Preamble — Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, and Republic — which constitute the foundation of India’s democratic framework, promoting justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity among all its citizens. The Preamble’s invocation of “We, the people of India” The preamble begins with the famous and stirring words, “We, the people of India”. This invocation of t...

Why BJP is opposing the Telangana caste census?

The BJP opposes the Telangana caste census primarily due to concerns about its political motivations, alleging that the Congress party is using it for electoral gain rather than genuine welfare of Backward Classes (BCs)  1 3 .  BJP leaders argue that the census distracts from Congress's unfulfilled promises to BCs and could exacerbate social divisions  2 4 .  Additionally, there are fears within the BJP that a detailed caste enumeration might reveal ongoing upper-caste dominance in politics and society, which could challenge their support base  7 8 . The BJP's main arguments against the caste census include: Political Manipulation : BJP leaders assert that the Congress party is using the caste census for political advantage rather than for the welfare of Backward Classes (BCs), claiming it distracts from unfulfilled promises made to these communities  2 4 . Threat to Hindutva Agenda : The party views the census as a potential challenge to its support base a...
