INDIA: OH TO BE A SUPERPOWER.

While the incidence of those chanting about India's incipient superpowerdom seems to be diminishing, it is still a popular chant.

To be a SUPERPOWER means we first become an economic power. Which means we first become a nation wealth wealth is more prevalent than in a few few pockets of affluence and high rise towers. The Covid19 jathas of migrant workers making their long marches should be a sobering realization of where exactly we stand.

This should be a reality check for all those who go on about India's emergence as a major power and demand a seat for India on the global high table. I think our focus for the next few decades should be on getting out of the company of the nations who are depicted inside India.

Besides, what is the point in being a “superpower“?

Though the origin of Jai Hind is usually ascribed to Chempakaraman Pillai in 1907, it didn’t have a popular usage till Netaji Bose made it the standard greeting of the INA. How this happened to be has a Hyderabad connection. It is believed by Netaji’s close followers that the slogan "Jai Hind" as coined by Abid Hasan Safrani.
